FUJIFILM

FUJIFILM

FUJIFILM Manufacturing Europe B.V. is with around 850 employees one of the largest FUJIFILM production facilities outside of Japan. The company produces photo paper and offset plates. Moreover, the Tilburg Research Laboratory (TRL) continuously works at innovation of existing products and development of new products.

Project Description

While a lot of FUJIFILM’s current technologies and innovative product developments find their roots in the company’s original products related to photo and film, FUJIFILM’s R&D activities extend far beyond the traditional imaging industry. FUJIFILM’s knowledge and expertise in photosensitive materials and multi layer coating of thin films have resulted in the development of highly functional membranes for different applications.

Therefore FUJIFILM Manufacturing Europe BV has been planning the implementation of a professional new business development approach and has chosen to work with the Bell-Mason model. Bell-Mason delivered an assessment combined with a training to establish common understanding of the corporate venturing approach to new business development. This was a good basis to fully implement a dedicated new business development organization (NBD).

In the first phase (2010) we have been asked to support this process by

  • facilitating the creation and implementation of a sound business development process,
  • embedding the Bell Mason framework and surrounding it by the key success factors of successful business development and effective open innovation
  • generating the right understanding and commitment with key people inside and outside the Fuji organization
  • To define a sound customer segmentation by using the method of business model generation, develop a customer roadmap and support the lead customer approach
  • To support team compositions, the team building process and coaching the leadership where necessary

In the second phase (first half of 2011) we supported the NBD organization to professionalize the stage gate approach for specific subjects like:

  • Competition strategy
  • Distribution strategy
  • Pricing strategy
  • Whole product-stack approach
  • Customer segmentation and bowling alley

This project was executed in cooperation of TheVirtualManager and Squarewise.
