The Business Unit Wind of Hansen Transmissions International NV is a leading global wind turbine gearbox designer, manufacturer and supplier. In addition to its principal manufacturing facilities in Lommel (Belgium) Hansen has a production plant in Coimbatore, India and for the Chinese market in the Beichen,  Tianjin. Hansen has strong research and development operations and employs 2400 people worldwide.

 

Project description

The Hansen BU Wind has experienced tremendous growth and has expanded their production activities to growing markets for wind energy, such as India and China. To do so, it must inevitably transfer some company specific knowledge to the overseas operations. However, it is concerned by the potential risk of losing such valuable knowledge to its competition. The key question is therefore, “How can Hansen develop an approach to knowledge transfer which optimizes the value of sharing whilst minimizing the risks”.

 

The project included the following aspects:

  • Creation of an overview of the current knowledge situation at Hansen;
  • Development of a knowledge transfer policy for Hansen;
    • Training the engineers how to use the knowledge transfer
  • Development of a deployment plan (including tools);
  • Development of a decision making and roll-out roadmap.

 

This project was executed in a cooperation of TheVirtualManager and Squarewise.
