Development Organization Rotterdam
The Development Organisation Rotterdam is responsible for the environmental, economic and regional development within the cluster of Urban Development of the municipality of Rotterdam.
Project Description
After the transfer of harbours of the Harbour Company Rotterdam to the municipality the task of the Development Organisation Rotterdam has grown. The key questions are: How can the harbours and wharfs in the (inner) city be redeveloped, in a sustainable way, into unique selling points of an attractive (inner) city? How can the right priorities be established and by whom?
On the basis of the “Re-Invent Your Business”-model we have prepared and organized a workshop with the objective to develop insight and co-operation and to arrive at a new approach.
Our process consisted of the following parts:
- Interviews conducted with the stakeholders to get acquainted with their views on this process, their objectives and their mind-set
- A common view of the future was developed: environmental and/or economic visions, vision of service and maintenance and images of Rotterdam as the “young international city on the waterfront”
- We looked for a division of responsibilities within the current organizational structure in order to be able to react adequately to initiatives from the market
- We looked for clarity in relation to the cost of the exploitation and maintenance of the waterfront and the wharfs
- Problems were named and possible solutions looked for to bring up to the management / board
