Creation through Chaos and Chance

Creation through Chaos and Chance

The Dutch Design Week was really worth visiting but especially impressive was the Graduation Award Exhibition: great creativity, fantastic designs and - especially I was looking for "Re-Invent Your Business"-ideas - new ways for looking at the business. And I was very well served. My favorite was Itay Ohaly and his "Creation through Chaos and Chance". In his exploration of non-linear creative processes, he systematically deconstructed and re-shuffled various stages in design. He involved different people in various design phases asking them for simple actions without letting them know what the purpose was. The eventual outcome was the desk exhibited. Look for more at his website.

In my workshops at the Design Academy I realized already that the approach of business processes through industrial design people can lead to surprising solutions especially at the cross-overs of different technologies and different sectors like e.g. food and hi-tech.

I would like to make much more use of industrial design ideas in our business development processes. Can a bit of chaos help us perhaps to find new business opportunities? Who is prepared to give it a chance?
